Weird Wednesday ~ Waaa! I broke a nail!

Hello Dahlings!

Yep, I did one of da most dreaded things a nail blogger can do to themselves...
I broke a nail!
I'm not sure what da heck happened. I was reaching to pull a piece of laundry off da drying rack & barely bumped my finger into da wood &...BAMN! Using Orly's Nail Mender kit as an undercoating really helps to limit da number of brakes I get each year,
but it doesn't prevent this type of break:

I didn't think to take pics until after I has applied da 1st & 2nd layer of da patching process. You can see da break that runs 2/3 of da way across my pinkie nail under da rough coat of ONM. There is a layer of ONM on da underside,
but you can see that won't stop a break below da nail line.

This is da acrylic powder that comes with da ONM kit, Kiss brush on nail glue (da bottle that came with da kit glued itself shut, like they do), Sally Hansen's Kwik-Aid bonding glue & one of da fiber patches that come with da bonding glue. I don't know if SH still sell their nail patching kit, but I really like da thin felted fiber style of patch over da woven silk patches more commonly found in da fix it aisle.
This stuff is o-l-d...da bonding glue used to be clear.

After applying da 1st & 2nd layers of ONM over da break, I added a 3rd layer over da whole nail. Once that cured, I buffed da nail surface so there weren't any big lumps. Then I applied da bonding glue & let that dry for a few mo's. I then applied da fiber patch & another layer of glue & let that dry for 10 minutes. I then added another layer of ONM. Once everything was hard to da touch, I buffed it smooth while taking care to not remove too much of the patch on da edge where da break starts. I used acetone to remove any glue/powder bits that touched my skin.

I then re-did da nail art. I did better with da waterfall da 1st time around. LOL To me this looked all kinds of lumpy wonked, but I doubt anybody noticed that I'd patched da bejeebers out of my pinkie nail but me.

I trimmed my nails back when I took off da mani I was wearing when da break happened & I'd hoped to get at least 2 weeks to grow da break out before I'd have to chop my nails...alas, I only got 5 days, but it was enuf that da break had grown out to da nail line. It's a major nubbin for sure (NO free edge!) , but I didn't bleed, so it's tolerable. Da rest of my nails got chopped back to near finger tip length to wait for da nubbin to grown out to meet the rest. Friday's mani is da one I was wearing when this all happened & after that post y'all will get to see my shorties for a while.

Ciri is bummed about my broken nail too!

Monday Quickie ~ Textured Funky French!

Hello Dahlings!

For our 23rd anniversary, Mr Inky & I went to da Seattle Waterfront! We rode da new Ferris wheel (I don't do heights well, so this shows how much I love that man. LOL) & totally pigged out at da Crab Pot. Today's show & tell is da mani I wore that day.

Da line up: Sally Hansen Pink Sprinkles, OPI Can't Let You Go,
Sally Hansen Lick-o-Rich & my faithful Essence skinny striper.

2 coats of Pink Sprinkles. Went on no prob & dried fast.
I really like the SH Sugar Coat line...not a dud in da lot so far.

Ta Da. I added funky French tips using Can't Let You Go & Lick-o-Rich.
I picked da colors to match da dress I wore, but the pink was too warm...
I should have gone with something more fuchsia, like Julie G's Crushed Candy.
Da OPI took FOREVER to dry & had massive tip wear after da crab fest.
Egad! I just realized I must have eaten all da polish that chipped off!  Blerg.

This is the dress I wore that day that I failed to match da pink polish to...
see, da pink I used wasn't blue enuf.

As for Mr Inky & me? This song pretty much sums it up: Head Over Feet

Fan Brush Grunge

Hello Dahlings!

Recently, Dionne showed us her 1st effort at doing a fan brush mani
& thought I'd give it a try too.

Da line up: Essence Peel Off base coat, Wet N' Wild Electricity, Joe Jet,
Nina Ultra Pro Punky Purple & Punky Pink plus my Essence fan brush.

I found this in a clearance basket at Fred Meyer's & thought I'd give it a try.
This is one coat, mostly dry. You know it's dry when it's all clear & shiny,
tho' it's still a bit tacky to da touch.

3 coats of Electricity later I decided this one needed silver undies next time.

Pre Seche Vite top coat. I started with da black then added da purple & lastly da pink.
I did each finger going in a different direction cuz I just can't do 'normal'.
Da silver glitter bomb  base color added an interesting visual texture to the effect.

My lil Essence fan brush bristles had a tendency to clump, so I was using da pointy end of a stone picker to spread them back out after whisking off da excess polish & that helped a lot. Another thing that would have helped was choosing opaque polishes. Da pink & purple were too sheer & dulled da contrast. For da most part it looked like badly cleaned up horror movie blood. LOL

As for the Essence Peel Off base coat? Total FAIL!
I get a much better peel job when I use regular old Elmer's Glue.
At least I got it on clearance.

Here's your kitty pic...

Ha! Thought you were going to get another Cirrus pic, didn't ya?
This is my Ziggy Bear. He's 15lbs of kitty lovin' goodness.
Yes, his tail is short & kinky.
It has 3 zigs & a zag. 2 of da zigs form a hook on da end of his tail.

Weird Wednesday ~ Burgundy Shimmer Polish Comparison

Hello Dahlings!

I went on a bit of a buying spree at Cassie Cosmetics last spring & got all of the Sally Hansen Lacquer Shine polishes that I didn't already have. Now I knew there were possible some dups & near dups in this haul cuz from the names it looks like Sally Hansen released 3 collections under this line: flower names, Christmasy adjectives & regular adjectives. Let's take a look & you can decide for yourselves which one's you prefer...

Da line up: Sally Hansen Iris 02, Hibiscus 03, Lily 04, Shining 07,
Ruby Kisses Date Night, Wet N' Wild 24 Carats plus a small detail brush

In da bottle these dark reds are very similar...on  da nail? They're still very similar! LOL
P ~ Iris (the darkest of the SH)
R ~ Hibiscus (more brown than Iris & a bit lighter)
M ~ Lily (slightly  lighter than Hibiscus & slightly less brown)
I ~ Shining (lighter than Iris & more red than Hibiscus & Lily)
T ~ Date Night (between Iris & Shinning).
So while none of these are exact dups, you might not need all of them unless dark reds are your polish passion. Application was good for all of them, tho' da SH's dried slower than da RK polish. (They're also 10+ years older, so I cut them some slack.)

Moi? Leave my nails with plain polish? Never! (ok, nearly never lol)
I added tigerish stripes using da lil brush & 24 Carats.

Oh? You want your Cirrus pic? Here you go...

Peek-a-boo...I'm cute!

Monday Quickie ~ Textured Double Swirly Thing Alert!

Hello Dahlings!

Today's mani is based on this one done by Claire at Nuthin' but a nail thing. The only things I changed were some of the colors & I used textured polishes for my gradient.

Da line up: Finger Paints Paper Mache & Black Expressionism, Nicole by OPI I Lilac Gumdrops & My Cherry Amour plus a fine tip dotter & a bit of sponge

2 coats of Paper Mache. Even with my crappy application,
it's still looks pretty good. LOL

I used the sponge to apply this 2 color gradient by painting the
colors on the sponge then pouncing about until I liked it.
I did have to do 2 layers to get this intensity of color.

Yeah, I was needing a major project to keep me from thinking too much
the night I did this. LOL Claire's tutorial makes this an easy mani,
if a bit time consuming.

Here's your kitty pics:

Ciri lying on da rug being all cute...

Stre-e-etch & roll...now I'se even cuter meowmy!

Does It Stamp? ~ more yellow, brown, green, teal & blue

Hello Dahlings!

I would have started posting for this series again last weekend, but it was mine & Mr Inky's 23 wedding anniversary. We spent Sunday in downtown Seattle & I was too pooped to post. We rode the new waterfront Ferris wheel (da things I do for that man cuz I don't do heights well lol) & totally pigged out at da Crab Pot. We got one of da big bowls of nommy seafood that had snow crab legs & claws, Dungeness crab legs & claws, large shrimp, clams, mussels plus potatoes, corn & Seattle Sourdough bread. We chunky dunked in that pile o' seafood goodness until stuffed! We dove in so fast that I didn't even get any pics. So I didn't post. My bad...not!

I do have more polishes that stamp to show you...

Ruby Kisses Sunflower, Sally Hansen Lotus 01 & Ruby Kisses Chocolate Romance

Sally Hansen Vivid 08 & Glimmering 04

Maybelline Mystic Green (Maybelline blew it with this line! They're calling them Holographic, but they're really duo chromes.), Orly Pretty Ugly, Ruby Kisses Tinkerbell Teal & Blues Gone Wild

You can acquire the vintage Sally Hansen Lacquer Shine polishes at
Many of the retired beauty products they carry are available for less than what they sold for in stores!

I've been a serious polish buying ho of late,
so I know I'll have more polishes to test & share with you!

Thanks for stopping by!
